I'm a sucker for any pistol in .30 Luger and I'd been hunting for a P-38 in that chambering for a long time. Last week, one became available and I was able to buy it... proofed in 1973 and still NIB with test target, manual, extra mag and cleaning rod.
Now the question is: Do I shoot it or not? I'm tempted but haven't decided yet. One interesting fact is that the chamber easily accepts the same cartridges that I loaded for my older Lugers using .312" bullets, indicating that Walther probably used original specs for the chamber & barrel. My Benelli and Hi-Power both have smaller chambers and .308" groove diameters. Neither will accept cartridges loaded will bullets much over .308" diameter. I'll post some pictures of the P-38 later. |
