Post What is this cutout in my left grip?

On the left grip of my dual date 1917/1920 DWM Luger (grips non matching to gun serial number), there is a cutout on the inside, at the center of the top of the grip. The releived area measures about 1/8" x 1/8" x 1/2" and appears to have been done by machine. There is nothing on the gun that appears to require the cutout and no sign of anything having been removed. Was this done for one of the safety mechanisms on the gun the grip came from?

Gary is it possible for you to post a photo or image scan of the inside of your left grip?

Gary, As John says, it's difficult to be sure without seeing at least a photo but it does sound like your grip came from a PO8 with a mag safety installed. TH
