I believe Vlim is still incarcerated and likely will be for a long time...

No he is not, unfortunately. You can look further into it and it is best to keep discussion of it on a public forum short, but it happened last July.

Such tragic story.

Gerben helped me with vintage Mercedes-Benz auto matters over the years.

Been following some of the press releases about Vlim's troubles.

Turns out :

1. Fellow that was shot had 3 previous arrests for home burglary and/or home invasion.

2. Judge in hearing in March 2025 said they did not find evidence of "Islamaphobia" on the part of Vlim as the victim's family claimed.

3. Altercation started inside Vlim's home with the first shot occuring in Vlim's kitchen where a spent casing was found. Vlim's lawyers insist Vlim was the victim and was acting in defense.

So there might be another/many sides to this tragic story.

The local press seems to portray Gerben as having some perversion with old guns and mention he has gun collecting licenses as if that if a bad thing.

Hope he gets a fair shake in their judicial system.

Certainly not the case in much of their press/media.

There is a great deal of prejudice against conservatives evident in media coverage from Gerben's area. There are surely many sides to this that are not being discussed in the media, which specializes in sensationalizing such incidents.

There is a distinct prejudice against firearms and firearm owners there, regardless of the conditions of self defense involved.

This needs to play out. There is no assurance of fairness. Here in the US, I am one of the people that helped define and pass a legal doctrine in my state called the "Castle Doctrine", which Netherlands and Europe is sadly lacking. It would have likely been helpful in this case.

Yes, called "stand your ground" in many States. Some cover only one's home, but others extend this to your vehicle or a work place. Even to public transport in some cases.

I hope the best for Gerben.

Unfortunate - Castle doctrine covers any shots fired in your home (The Kitchen) , but nothing covers following a felon out into the street.

That depends on the state and their definition of "Castle Doctrine".
In my state, I helped establish this law in 2011. It extends to your motor vehicle and the "curtilage" surrounding your home or business. This differs in other states.
Clearly, in Netherlands, they do not have this protection in law.

That would be excellent t
I couldn't agree more
I see this cockroach's mother is already crying "Islamophobia" on the part of Vlim as the victim's family claimed.
This being the same low moral 'mother' who instilled into her 'little boy' all the morals of a low life thief while rearing him.

I am sorry - I don't mean to be emotional BUT I LIKE VLIM/GERBAN VERY MUCH - THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED TO HIM.
I only hope that the Netherlands are not as blind when they gather all the facts that will prove that Vlim did what ANY MAN would do protecting his hard earned belongings from lazy immoral scum who would STEAL a man's possessions !!
