I'm also a fan of the vacuum sealing approach for long-term storage, or perhaps in preparation for a natural disaster that risks having them bobbing around in a flooded house. I'd also put a package of silica gel desiccant. The ammo can is good insurance, too.

Born and raised in California - I *DETEST* hurricane season here in Florida. Every single friggin' year! I'll take an earthquake any day over hurricanes/tornadoes.

If it were up to me, I'd live *AT LEAST* 200 miles - preferably further - from any ocean and *AT LEAST* 2,500 ft elevation.
