Bought via the commercial market it is marked in the commercial fashion and once it came into police inventory in the later 1920's, it received exterior serial marking as seen on army pieces.
It received a sear and mag safety around 1934 (?), and a few years later the mag safety was decided it was not worthwhile and vast majority of them were decommissioned (safety) Ed
