The barrel is an East German replacement for the original Mauser barrel. Some EG barrels have the C/N plus a three digit date (e.g., "953" indicates it was made in September, 1953) while others have only the C/N. The magazine is also EG, made by the Ernst Thalmann factory.

The front of the frame looks to me to have been scrubbed of the original serial number but the angle makes it difficult to say for certain.

I'm pretty sure the grips are replacements and could also be EG.

So yes, your Luger could well have been used by the Vopo. In my opinion.

Most likely a former VoPo that was imported and refurbished in the late 1990s. Frankonia in Germany had quite a few reworked to like-new condition with fresh Nill grips.

I have a 1937 / ex Vopo in a similar condition. Great shooter but collectability took a hit with the 1990s rework.
