It doesn't look "normal", but then neither does a really short barrel on a baby. The heavier barrel does help with the reliability of the short 9mm barrel; and allows the .30 cal upper to exchange with the 9mm without a mainspring change. And for sure, Jim does nice work on grips. He just re-cut a couple pairs of worn out Colt Woodsman grips for me- they look new!
