Moderating the moderators
The other day I posted a topic I thought would be of interest of the group. The taking of guns without due process. http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=39091
Two moderators were not completely of topic but off on a medical tangent. During their medical pissing contest the moderator struct verbal blood on the super moderator and to retaliate the super moderator canceled the discussion...Made no sense to me when other members might still have opinions on the original gun confiscation process. But hey, I am not a moderator. Last edited by hayhugh; 11-18-2018 at 07:13 AM. Reason: add the word "day" |

Perhaps it is better to discuss this in the moderator forum with the moderators involved.
No need for another pissing contest. |

One would hope the moderators would do that rather then cancel the topic.…….

The subject may just be too close to "political" to belong in the luger forum, JMHO.

If taking your guns away does not belong in this forum - then where?

We have no access to such a forum on the "regular" site in the USA. Perhaps it would cool tempers if we did. Sieger |

You might voice your dissatisfaction with this forums policies directly to the Site Owner. I believe he is the one who 'moderates the moderators'. Not taking any sides here. Just sayin'...

Personally I don't visit the forum to read political opinions on anything and welcome any political thread on any topic be closed. I would guess that some assume, incorrectly, that because we are all firearm owners that we are all of one view regarding all aspects of all things relating to firearms laws. That is absurd in a forum with more than two or three members and especially true for a forum this large. As the closed thread demonstrates.
Because reasonable people may disagree on virtually any law or related topic, any thread discussing firearms laws is per se political. The rules say no political threads. I think it is a good rule and believe we are all best served by following it. The reason is practical. If I start/participate in a political thread, someone may disagree. If we get into an argument it may cause hard feelings. Hard feelings may decrease future cooperation on exchanging information. I visit to exchange information; allowing political discussions is to allow what will almost certainly become obstacles to member cooperation. I have been a political columnist and follow politics pretty closely and love to discuss as much as anyone. But in some settings it is best not to discuss due to risk of ill will. This forum is IMO one such setting. |

Hugh, Just start another thread. I apologize..I should not have brought up such a sensative subject. Apparently it hits too close to home for comfort and you are correct. It became off topic.
But Remember you don't have to be on a southern plantation to be a slave, if you are dependent on government entitlements, you just have a different slave owner.

The nice thing about political discussion is it tends to whittle down attendance at Thanksgiving dinner. Our family was getting too big for comfort, so when my wife and her brother had that little political row 10 years ago it eased crowding at table by two. Unfortunately our daughter made up for it by having three kids, so when our son announced that he had become a vegan and would not enter a house "where flesh is served" we could hardly contain our glee.
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all, Norm |

According to a study in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, which cites the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the United Nations International Study on Firearms Regulation, the more guns a nation has, the less criminal activity.

That thread had simply gone it’s course.
If you read our rules, political discussions are usually nuked. My good friend Jerry and I can disagree and we agree on many subjects. |

The topic had over one post every hour for 14 hours (18 total) didn't seem to be running out of steam until you stated: jerry, yes, you were lecturing me. I have a decent education and can read and understand, just because you think different, doesn't make you right.
and closed the post...…. |

Hugh, I’ve had a very tough month, if you desire to test my patience, you’ll find it is VERY short.
You vented, now drop it. Please |

Ed,
maybe you should highlight, or Bold it in the stickies- and move it to the top.
