Some of the old hands may say that you should be able to get a decent shooter Luger for less than a thousand but I would caution you that as a new buyer unfamiliar with the world of Lugers, you should proceed slowly. What may look like a good deal to a new collector will elicit disgust from those who have been collecting for a number of years. Decide what era you wish to collect and what you wish to do with your pistol. Is it a collector's piece which you have no desire to ever fire or are you looking for a piece that you can fire without any regard for risking breakage? Learn from the people on this board, ask questions and post pictures of Lugers that may interest you. There are a lot of Lugers for sale and many are pieced together or horribly refinished sporting outlandish prices. The hobby is a minefield but it is very satisfying when you come across a fine example with history that you can trace. Were it not for the many fine people on this board who were willing to share their extensive experience, I would have fallen for at least two bad examples instead of finding an excellent condition WW1 example with significant history.
