Default Helmets

My daughter and her husband to be left this morning to move to Wyoming. A friend of theirs gave them this helmet as a going away present(he's German, that's probably why). He sent pics of both sides to me and I asked if it still had a liner which it does not. I asked if there were any numbers inside and he sent those to me as well. It's obviously from WW2 but other than that I have no clue. Anyone here that can tell me everything there is to know about this? What value should I tell them? I feel that it is original.

Known as a "beaded" Police helmet. Not as thick or as sturdy as the combat helmets, but still collectible.
