What should I buy ?
I have been collecting US military weapons for several years and have allways wanted a Luger. I just sold one of my M1 Garands for the purpose of buying one so now here I am. I don't want a collecters item just a correct WWII gun I can show and sometimes shoot in the $900-$1100 range with wood grips. Seems what I have came up with so far is it will be a 1940-41 era Mauser. Not sure on BFY,S/42 or 42 code( witch one ?). I am in Tennessee and plan on attending the Pope gun show tomorrow. Used to be a guy there with tables of Lugers maybee he will be there. Thanks for any help. Quinn

Hi Quinn, Welcome!!
1934 to early 1939 are S/42, then to early 1941 they are code 42, then to 1942 they are byf. The metalurgy in these Lugers is superior to the early pistols, so they are the strongest shooters. I would say any, but the later pistols are more reasonable, if any nice Luger is reasonable!!! I think you hit the nail on the head with a 1940 to 1942 choice!! Good Luck! |

$750 for 75% might be stretching it, but then all matching is very nice!
I think you did okay, if you are happy, then you are doublely okay! Post pictures and show us your new baby! Ed
