On the note of Japanese weapons, maybe someone can answer something I've wondered for awhile now. The type of wood used in the stock and especially the small piece that covers the top of the barrel. They almost look like a bamboo. Very light in weight. I have always been curious about that.
Several varieties of Asian hard wood were used, but not bamboo.
The Wood is similar to beech, but softer and with less figure; it is quite light in color almost white when not stained.
