Oh, no. He's not pity. In Chinese thousands years of history, there were totally 250-300 monarchs, I cannot remember the exact number. Among them, only three guys had no background. All others either inherited the position from their father/uncle/grandpa, or being senior officials in power usurped the position. No background, starting from ground zero, purely through their own effort and being successful ?? only three. Mao was the latest one.

From another angle, did Mao make Chinese miserable? It's a disputable topic even among Chinese. Some people hate him, some people love him. Personally, I felt Mao being a master of destroying old system, he's not good on building up a new system though...if he had died in 1950 instead of 1976, his image in history could be better. That's just my opinion.... live too long did not necessarily being good news for him from that viewing angle.
