I believe than Ralph was originally from Michigan and retired to Peoria, AZ. MATC (Military) flights from the midwest, stop in Alaska to refuel on their way to bases in Asia. TH

Tom, I have tried many times to explain to acquaintances (sometimes to friends) that it is necessary to use a globe to track the paths of aircraft (and ships) from one continent to another. Example; flying from New York to Paris, you fly over Ireland. (Close enough to not matter).

Occasionally, they persist in believing that a map shows how that is not possible. I slot those people in the group 'flatlanders'.

As I have done more than once.

My last flight to Asia was civilian and took me over parts of Russia and, I think, China. It was non-stop from Dulles to Seoul-Inchon.
