You see police with Simson parts - but then I am sure there were armorer replacement kits that were full of Simson parts that were in units or depots - but that is conjecture.

The "M" is a workers marking? I see letters under the side plate fairly often on guns.

Sounds like a 1918 that never made it into service, I have an upper like that.
