The easiest way to sell nice and high value C&R is doing a few private gun show sessions. Local collectors could absorb most of them. ... but my collection was much smaller, about 1/4 size from volume.... there are more people collecting Lugers, probably work in the same way.

Everyone would like to have gun in hand and preform a complete disassembly before a purchase. In this case (even though a known member of long standing) to buy without even a photo is asking a lot. Would the seller buy a gun under these conditions?

As Sam is well known, I doubt there would be a problem, so long as everyone acts like an adult. If you make a purchase, talk to Sam first about expectations in case of any misunderstanding. That is what I would do.
