At last years NAPCA convention a gentleman was referred to me to evaluate his 1917 Navy P.04.
After careful examinination, I regretfully had to tell him it was a fake. He took the news well, and asked me to go over the reasons I said it was fake, which I did. Then he told me that his late wife had gone to the well known "important collector, dealer and authority" to buy a surprise 50th wedding anniversary present for him. So Shattuck sold her a fake. It really broke my heart when he told me it was a special gift from his wife. I have absolutely no problem speaking ill of a villian who would do a thing like that.
