Grinding/sanding/filing an aluminum magazine base and re-stamping numbers isn't too technical a job. It can be done in your basement with cheap Harbor Freight tools, with no 'finishing' required. The steel pistol itself is a bigger undertaking, and the surface finishing would likely be beyond most amateur mechanics (it's beyond my skillset).

Years ago, I replaced two Luger barrels and stamped the receiving pistol's number and land measurement in them. Not to raise perceived value, but because if the originals had them, it seemed to me the Numrich replacements should too. I imagine many enthusiasts feel the same way about magazines.
