I use a Rubbermade plastic bin and wrap each gun in a dry cotton sock and place them on the botton. Leather on top!! I fit all twenty lugers and leather~Eric

I bought a P.38 and pocket watch from Louisiana-Alabama shortly after Katrina went thru and they clearly were sitting in water for a period of time. The red muckie water had inundated the fusee watch but it was mostly brass and could be cleaned up. But old iron & steel pieces were gone. The pistol (AC44 with matching numbers for $300) was cleaned up, but had pits and stains from sitting in water and rusty muck in the little springs like the extractor and was engraved by the vet that brought it back. It was sad to see these family heirlooms damaged by the storm and possibly sold to earn funds to rebuild, with probable heartbreak. So a word of caution to the wise is sufficient.

I live in high ground 500 feet above see level. If my feet ever get wet, I expect to see an old man in an ark with lots of animals.

Eric,
Our thoughts are with you as this storm approaches. The commercial gun socks help prevent problems by being saturated with silicone spray. There are types of silicon spray that will cause problems (adhering to the surface of the Luger), but others that can help ward off moisture and humidity. Think "bore stores" and similar things. Would it make sense to put each cloth wrapped Luger inside a sealed plastic bag?

I thought of sealing each individually in plastic but each gun in its own sock puts cotton before sealing the box! . I then seal it with the Rubbermade rubber lid and seals it airtight with duct tape that keeps it perfectly safe~ It also works perfect for my leather goods! Years ago when I was in rehab after my stroke, a water hose broke and flooded our home. Tk God all my guns were in the pretty blue. We had six inches of water and humidity Debby stored the all above and the tight cover protected them fine!! I have no idea how the survived the muddy trenches!

Better to just come to the West Coast of Florida. You want that storm on your flank, not your rear!

Leaving for the west coast is becoming a log jam! Our home has a strong tin room and indoor pool for water and toilets~ We are 6 feet above our lake and all guns packed away and 2 generators! Thank you Dave for your valid concerns! Port St. Lucie, Fla!

The next few days, I will just sit on my front porch and have beer, wine, bourbon and rum.

God be with you Eric... be safe, and keep your pistols, leather, Debbie, and powder dry!
