Hello all my name is Colton. I'm new to Lugers but I've wanted one for a very long time. I have multiple military firearms mostly ww2 era . So here goes, I was at Cabelas about two months ago and came across one of my dream guns, the Luger, and before I did any research I bought it. So now I'm enlisting your knowledge of this firearm to see what the true value of it is. The gun came with 6 magazines and a holster witch I can't find any information about .

You should post more pics. But to me it looks refinished and buffed if it is a 1918 it should not have a blues trigger. At least from the photo it appears to be blued.
Please post more pics if you can. Wayne |

Hi and welcome.
You are going to have to do some work for input! First read the stickys for new collectors. Then post good close ups of the various angles of your luger, magazines, and holster. Tell us what you paid for it too, as that is the "true" value. It may be worth more or less to someone else, but pictures are needed to tell.

The Luger is likely worth $700-$800. As it looks a bit pitted? If bad lighting and not pitted, and matching, then a thousand is a good price.
Repro magazines? If original, they are worth $100 each, if repro, $5 each. The holster I'd say is USA, except that's a German marking. Interesting. The mag pouch looks more p38 or Radom or 1911?

Csiford, congrats on your first Luger and welcome to the forum. All the numbers showing appear to match, the finish appears to be reblued due to earlier roughness and piting. The holster is unique to me; I've never seen one like it. Show us close photos of the mag and particularly the bottom. Photos of the back sides of the grips will be helpful in determining originality. Nice first rig.
My opinion is that you may have paid close, if not slightly more than the market value. Frankly, you did ok on your first Luger purchase given your limited knowledge. I'm sure you will enjoy your new Luger, the most famous and exciting pistol ever made. ![]()

I will retract my statement about the trigger being blued. It looked blued in the pic that was posted last night. I jumped the gun.
The holster hanger is kind of cool as pointed out by Ed earlier. It apprears to be a cut down hanger off of an SA Dagger. |

Ditto on what the others said on the pistol, it is reblued and pitted, and you sightly overpaid.
But the holster may be worth $100 to someone, it is likely a German made copy of the US 1911 shoulder holster; many not issue holsters were made for lugers for GI's just post WWII. They probably or could have come home together as souvenirs; unfortunately the luger did not fare as well as the holster. Welcome to the board, but be careful- it is tough to own just one!

The holster looks like a P38 holster but would have to try a mag to say for sure. Shoulder holster with RZM marking I would guess would be worth 250. Good score if you want to sell the holster.
I agree with Ed that the gun is 700 to 800. I would buy the holster if interested in selling. |

That holster is interesting. I've heard it said here that no such shoulder holsters were ever issued, so comments on authenticity are welcome.

Thanks for all of the information guys and as far as the mags go I'll I've to take pictures of them tonight when I get home I ran out of time last night . The pitting looks far worse in the pictures than it does in real life . Can you guys see the markings enough to give me a little more information on them?

Not much to say on the pistol itself, it is a "normal" DWM P 08 made in 1918.
Neglected, pitted- likely from poor storage-, reblued , but with a cool holster. I doubt the holster was "issue", just re-purposing/recycling of an existing buckle or strap, JMHO.

The holster is a GI private purchase. The RZM marked clasp was added to it later, as the original design adjustment buckle made it harder to remove the holster with gear on. I agree that it is an SA dagger hanger clasp.
This is not an issue item and should not be priced as such. Between the pistol, holster and the yet to be seen magazines, you paid in the high end of retail, but you weren't seriously hurt. |
