1000y 9mm shot!

It got me thinking. If someone has an artillery luger with 800m sights or a 9mm C96 with 550m sights and has access to a range with said distances, I would provide said shooter with match grade competition 124gr and 147gr ammunition of their choice (Hornady, Nosler, ASYM precision, etc) free of charge just to see how accurate these weapons can be in relation to their sights. Consider it a scientific experiment.

I am not discounting this video... but I would think this is a typical "a blind cat caught a dead mouse" scenario. At 1000 yards, he can not even see the target.

Any experiment result that cannot be repeated is doubtful. If more people can follow the process and repeat that, then, it's believable. Otherwise, not.

The balloon was tethered to a large steel plate, and there was at least one other large steel plate nearby. A hit on any of the steel would pop the balloon with fragments. Still, an impressive shot.

I admire Jerry Miculek, a lot, but how much I like him I tend to believe that 1000 metres is a looooooong distance, you can hardly see the big plate at the back I think.

Thought about this... In a windless day, at pre-selected fixed position, adjust elevation using that red dot on the gun... it may be possible to perform indirect shooting. That should be the only way at this distance.

It doesn't take much to pop a balloon, and he actually says that it was fragments that did the job (see comment below the video).

There's many ways to "prove" impossible things in a video. For example: The split screen videos could just as well be one of him at the 1000 yard line, combined with a target video of a 10 yard shot. He's a damn good shot though, and I don't think that he would stoop that low.

His hit on the plate was low and to the left, the balloon was fragged. I think he invested plenty of time dialing this in--what did he say, holding 50 yards above?

Agree. He must have spent lots of time to adjust position and elevation. For example, using tracer ammo, so impact can be observed by standby helper(s) and feedback to him. Adjust little by little, then, finally, "bang" in show time.

Lots of effort. He fired a pistol like a cannon. But unlike indirect shooting from cannon, pistol does not have complex and accurate aiming device, aiming majorly depends on his skill and experience, so it's still amazing -- he's definitely very skillful.

When German put 1000m sight leaf on pistol, probably indirect shooting like this was in designer's mind.... God knows.
