Found match mag for someone
I received a very nice 1936 s/42 today. The mag does not match the gun. I put the serial number of the mag in search on the forum and to my surprise I got a hit. Seems Mr. Jan Still called for a 1937-1938 s/42 study a few years back. He called for all serial numbers that fit his study. One Luger has serial number 599h. The Mag in my new Luger has that mag. I am sure whoever owns 599h would be very happy to find the exact magazine that his Luger was issued with. Please contact me if you have that Luger.

Mike -
I am curious; wouldn't that magazine actually match up with at least two Lugers and possibly more??? My reasoning is possibly 80,000 Lugers were made in 1936 and again in 1937, plus this 'style' of magazine may have been continued (or preceded) for a year or more after/before... Does that sound reasonable??? I don't have that number Luger but I'm sure if I did I could come up with a convincing story to go with it...

Matching Mag
Richard,
That exact thought crossed my mind, but considering the color of tube which would have been correct for his Luger, would eliminate a few models. Besides having the correct color with the right number and suffix would make anyone very happy. Mike |

The acceptance stamps on the magazine will determine the year of production. 599h with a straight winged eagle would be 1938. 599h with a drooped winged eagle would be 1936. 599h on a 122 body would would be 1940. That magazine would only be correctly matched with one 1938 S/42 Luger.

The Luger bearing serial number 599h in Mr.Still's data request is a 1938.
