That thing killed 3 crews of brave men who believed enough in their cause to set out in such an unproven and deadly contraption.

Can't see much humor related to it.

If I understod properly that submarine sort of thing sank three times and everytime some of the crew died. Submarines' war is still particularly hard, but in that case it must have been absolutely a nightmare for those poor people.
