UPDATE: Amazingly enough, the Ebay seller's auction (contrary to Ebay's rules) for a complete, functioning S/42 is STILL UP!?!?!? The best part, of course, is the BIN price of $6,000.00.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121734922317...317%26_rdc%3D1

- or -

Item #121734922317

No doubt, an optimist.

The price asked is a fortune, and the ad has got blurred pictures...

My ex mother in law used to say "there's nothing as strange as folk!"

Shows there are two kinds of idiots on eBay^H^H^H^Honline auction sites: Idiot buyers and idiot sellers. Sometimes they even manage to be on the same auction, but not usually.

I don't see it, but that 1911 A1 must be something special.
I'd like to know who "2ndamend63" is, because with 0 bid history they certainly drove the price way up.
I smell a rat...

Why a rat?
Looks to me like at least 4 idiots wanted the same Remington, maybe it is a "special" serial number???

Don:
My thoughts are that the seller used a fake bidder to keep driving the price up. And up, and up, and up.
But I'll never know for sure, entirely speculation on my part.

Shilling on these sites is typical. Once it is past my reasonable, I'm out.

the person doing all of the bidding didn't make the purchase. The buyer made only the final bid and he had made 70 other purchases on e-bay.

If that is a problem, then I am one.
I bid on lots of items and drop out when the price goes past what I want to pay.

That doesn't make me a "shill", just poor or smart!

And we don't know how high the actual buyers final bid was, it could be hundreds of $$ more than the selling price, as the way it works is one bid advance over the next highest bid.

He may have been prepared to pay $10,000- we have no idea.
