I don't know about the entire back - but the lower back is considered one of the most stable locations for a tattoo - it doesn't fluctuate much in size with weight changes.

In most circles, the small or lower back tattoo is considered the exclusive predilection of women. Guys who get tattoos here are usually assumed to be gay.
