The ways things are going these days the Army will probably end up with something like this.Only chambered in .357 Sig Trounds!

Seriously, you wont ever see a 1911 reinstituted as a service wide handgun. You have to realize the military is no longer seen as a fighting force, but as a test bed for social engineering and "diversity enhancement". Handguns are widely issued to support troops in addition to actual combat soldiers. You'll never be able to train a 100 lb inner city single mother to understand Condition 1 cocked and locked, or deal with the recoil of .45ACP.
