It would be nice to think this was the other test Luger, but it isn't. According to accounts, serial numbers 1 and 2 were provided for the test. Serial number 2 is the surviving highly publicized piece. Serial number 1 was subjected to extensive abuse during the test, including a rusting process that wouldn't have left it in a very good cosmetic state (true, it could have been refinished later, but I doubt that it would be in the condition shown for this carbine). Also, since serial number 2 did not go back to Germany, it is reasonable to believe number 1 remained behind also. Finally, the serial number on the carbine is not 1. I am sure Ralph will reveal what it is at a later date.
