Some rifle barrels have the keyway, I think Remington used a thin keyway on the 700 (I cut one down some time back)...Whoever removed the sight did it with a lot of heat...

Here's a Dewey front sight installed...No band, no dovetail...And no blade...(Owner removed it)...
