Hi Jack, first of all welcome to this forum of LUGER enthusiasts where you'll find all the good information you need.
As you can see there is a wide choice of Lugers, starting from their caliber and age. Maybe if you'd like to take it to the range the best choice would be a good shooter in 9mm and not too old, like for example a WWII P.08 My 2 cents
