Help with info re: BYF 1939 Luger with unusual marking

Someone had told him that they had heard when the contract with Mauser ended and mauser started making only P38's Left over luger parts were used to build some lugers that were sold to the Portugese navy. Don't know anything about that that's why I posted the pics and sought help from the experts. The owner has had the gun since the early 80's so if its been monkeyed with it was done a while back.
