The smaller leg needs to drop down into the hole you will see on the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger guard. The hole is bored clear through the frame, so you can use this as a guide as to where it is located internally. Don't use grease, but light oil to start. Grease has enough mass to prevent the spring from seating properly in its cut. Once it is installed, then grease can be used to help get it all back together.
