Inserting a take down lever spring

The positioning so far seems to be to place it to the left, standing on the point with the bent end pointing to the right. Sort of forming the letter "F" with the middle cross piece missing. Am I getting close? Will it help to keep it in place (after I get it in there) by putting some grease on it? And that also will allow for easier fitting of the two pieces to each other?? Would appreciate some help with this rascal.
