I'd like to hear more ideas as to the additional disk on the stock. Perhaps the fastener for a single point sling? an additional attachment?

Hi Doug, The "second disc" is actually the base for a shoulder strap attachment. This modification is quite rare and is only found on stocks with Torpedo Division unit marks. It allows a gun with stock attached to be carried over the shoulder, ready for instant use.
