Question About Serial Numbers

Number on the bottom of the barrel has 4 digits. Yes, the number is located where the barrel screws into the frame. That number stamped on the barrel is 8348. The number on the frame where the barrel screws in is 25289. In time I will post pics as soon as I learn how. But in the mean time, the piece has the same marking in at least 3 places. It is a capital "N" with what looks like a crown above it. Just for now, can you take a stab at the meaning of the N? Niederlande, or Netherlands?? Thanks.
