There is a print for the stock iron screws in Volume III, page 1834 of The Borchart-Luger Pistols.
Took a look..It's pretty useless for any reproduction purposes.

I compaired a original stock iron screw to the drawing of the screw (which is not a 1:1 scale drawing as to length) on page 1834 and it is accurate. The best match for thread pitch I could find appears to be Whitworth (55 Degree) 30G. Thanks Ed Roane |

Do you know what the thread pitch is? Diameters and tool angles are easily changed when making screws in the lathe, but it will take some math to come up with the correct change gear combination if it doesn't correspond to a common standard or metric pitch.

If there's a die available, those would be a piece of cake to make...

Hopefully, pictures of the stock iron screws I got from Patrice are attached. They are very good for original screws and they fit the iron perfectly. The overall length including the head is 1.592". The diameter of the shaft and thread O.D. is 0.151" which is a little less than 4 mm. The head diameter is 0.212" which is a little less than 5 mm. The length of the shaft and threads is about 1.5" with the threaded portion about 7/32" long.
I did not have a thread pitch gage, but I measured across 6 thread peaks which is the length of 5 threads and got a result of 11/64". Admittedly this measurement is quite hard to read. Five threads at 11/64" equates to 29 threads per inch. I have never seen a screw pitch that is an odd number. Also the 5 thread measurement I took would vary less than 1/64 between a pitch of 28 and a pitch of 30, so I can only say for sure that the pitch is 29 +/- 1 threads per inch. This is very different from a 4 mm thread which is about 36 threads per inch. |
