dipped is usually thought of as a russian gun, captured during WW2, but sold in the 1980's, they were literally dipped in a solution.
Since the action of rebluing requires it to be cleaned of all finish and then rusted, carded (taking off the 'rust') and this occurs several times before it gets the normal blued look, thus the comments about, if reblued it was done very well.
