Jens..The rod looks original and from what I know about late rods..correct for the 1918 period. The brass zig zag rod was known to be earlier and steel was the more available material later in the war.
Stands to reason that brass would be an important strategic metal and wasted on something as mundane as a pistol cleaning rod. If this rod proves to be authentic and I have not much reason to doubt it..I would value it at $350-400 and again..in the right venue it could go higher. These prices quoted are what I would pay if I found these items available to me at a gunshow.
