Curious what these are on police lugers

I've been looking at old threads and pictures on Police Lugers and I noticed this around the trigger on some lugers. Im curious what this is and does it have something to do with a safety feature.

Police Lugers have two possible types of extra safeties, the mag safety (which you are asking about) and the sear safety
