Default Another thing to consider...

is that the eagle IS America's symbol, and it is just the ART DECO STYLE in which this one is portayed which leads one to relate it to those of an earlier period. And therefore, if one wants to romp through the past looking for similarities, one will find that in fact the Reichalder (which is the official name of the SS eagle) was a copy of the Roman Eagle. So if it makes it any easier... yes the new stamp bears a striking resemblance to the Roman Eagle.
