Hey Ed,
One small addition I would add to your very helpful list is something that frequently gets overlooked with AV software, typically new systems that come pre-loaded with security software do so with a 30, 60 or 90 day subscription for updates, after the trial period they no longer offer protection unless you buy an annual subscription for the service ($30-60). I manage a corporate network and I've had many users come to me about their home systems getting compromised and come to find out they never subscribed after the trial period for the service, feeling once the software was installed they were protected. Installing proper AV software is important, keeping it up date is equally so. Also, if you keep family photo's, photo's of your guns for insurance purposes, important documents, etc. on your local drives consider one of the online backup services, they are inexpensive and invaluable if something catastrophic happens. FWIW. thanks, nick
