Correct on the 42 - it was the Mauser code in 1940. I hate to tell you that the toggle train is not original to the rest of the pistol. It came from another pistol whose serial number ended in 45.
Other than not very much finish, it looks healthy. If it shoots safely, and you are happy with the pistol and the price, no problems.
