Can you purchase and bring back legally a firearm there?

Yes but you can't take it back home in your suitcase, the gun sellers there are all certified gun dealers that are able to export so buying is possible but it stays with the dealer till the ATF allows you to import it through the dealer of your choice at your side of the pond.
