Got my first P.08 'bout twenty minutes ago via UPS. It is a 1939 42 coded piece with 70% + bluing. It is a total mismatch (the "action" is serial#45 and the frame components are "5987") but the chamber and mag base are both stamped with the eagle/63 waffenampt - which brings me to my first question : on the right side of the chamber are the two eagle/63 waffs (the second slightly smaller than the first) but there are two other non-Nazi eagles to the right of the waffs. One of these eagles is on the chamber, the second on the barrel. I think I've seen these proofs on a bud's .22 Erfurt - are they West German proofs ? The backstrap is marked "12." ? Are these black plastic grips original for a 1939 chamber date ? God ! I wish these things were as cheap as my beloved Mauser rifles !

THe eagles you ask about are, I suspect, firing proof and final acceptance stamps. They look like an eagle with outstretched wings sitting atop a swastika in a circle. The E/63 stamps are process inspection stamps.
Because your frame is different from the receiver--the frame might be from a 41-42 dated luger and bakelite grips would be factory on many of those. bakelites on 39s are probably repair grips or postwar. Reasons lugers are more expensive (and well worth it) than mauser rifles: smaller, can store up to 12,000 in a one-bedroom apartment attracts more babes you don't put circle dents in your ceiling with a luger any others? |

Sounds like my 37' S/42 the only thing that matches is the toggle assembly. It also has the Eagle over 63, two sizes and an eagle by itself. On the upper left side of the barrel is the Eagle over 63 that is so small it looks like a rust spot! I got it for $295, it was about 30% overall and really rough. I use it to try different blueing and other techniques on it. At one time I had it buffed down to pure metal, and polished it to look like chrome, kinda neat that way. Three days ago I blued it, preferred the chrome look. Can't help with the other info but have fun with it, mine shoots really good. Oh, when it looked like it was chromed, I put some repro grips on it that I had dyed black with leather dye, looked really nice. A genuine mini pimp gun.

mlm, I got a few holes in my ceiling too + the 98/05 butcher blade when mounted on a Gew98 just tears the dog crap out of a ceiling fan. I also have a small hole in the bedroom wall.... .32acp....just like what my HSc shoots. I don't know if I can bring myself to shoot the P.08 - it's just too clean. I ran a bore patch (sprayed with Liquid Wrench) through the barrel and absolutely nothing came off on the cloth. Thanks fellers.
