Because it is impossible to find replacement grips for the 1970's Mauser Lugers! The grips that came on these guns were too thick and checkered 18 LPI. I have small hands & to me they are painful to shoot. For $75, I will sand off the coarse checkering, thin & contour the grips & rechecker 20 LPI. This makes the gun much easier to handle. For $100, I will apply a "Swiss Border" pattern. I can be contacted at hhclark@wildblue.net However at present, I have a backlog of grip work due to my wife's recent illness and deer hunting season opening this past weekend. Turnaround for grips sent now will be approximately 6 weeks. Here are some pictures taken by my customers of grips I have modified for them:

Note also that the bottom of the grips at the grip screw area is shaped with straight cuts rather than the curved shape of early Lugers. That is why you can't use replacement grips, they aren't interchangeable.
