First off, sorry, I no very little about Luger's, other than I want one. Went into the gun shop today and there was a boxed Luger, came with a cleaning kit, 3 magazines, and a box of shells. The case was like a small brief case and had a velvet fitted interior. The Luger itself appeared to be an old Luger, that has been re-finished, serial # was 725 and had wooden bottomed magazines that were also numbered with the serial number and 1,2,3. I think the barrel had 2 dates, 1918, and 1920. I assume this is some sort of re-build with new magazines, but am unsure. Can anyone tell me about this gun and value?
Thank you for your help. |

We can't tell you much without pictures. The 1918 was the mfg. date, the 1920 was a state property stamp from the Weimar Republic. Sounds like a nice set though.

With the S/N plus 1, 2, and 3; it sounds like police magazines. Does the Luger have a sear safety or the remnants of a magazine safety?

I'm attaching a couple of photos to show the safeties that I mentioned above. Notice the riveted piece on top of the side plate--that's the sear safety. The other photo shows the slot cut in the side of the frame that indicated an old magazine safety.

Thank you for the photos, I'm going to go look at it again. The magazines appear to be new, be very well made, I see no wear or patina to the magazines, however the case that the gun, cleaning kit, magazines, and empty box of shells looks to be old...
