Just got this one off Ebay.

Looks like he got his first luger and couldn't wait to see it

Note the 2 magazines, the holster and the loading tool on the table.

I'll never forget my first one. I bought it in 1962 through the Shotgun News. It was an all matching 1938 and I paid $35 for it. At the same time I bought an all matching 98 Mauser in the cosmoline for $45.

1984, bought my first artillery (well 1st luger for that matter) for $350, it had been reblued and buffed, but I still have it.

He looks more german than american to me (the shorts), Vlim, does it say anything on the reverse?

PS: Pits, is a 'freya' a US or German military antenna?

Hi Ed,
The Freya was a German radar or radio direction rig I believe.
Definately German, I agree the shorts and building construction look European. Best to you,

I looked it up, Freya was a German early warning radar. They had built over one thousand sites. If you notice in the background distance it looks like another antenna. The one magazine that you can see clearly appears to be loaded.

Hi, the photo came in today.

The back says (handwritten): 'Pistolenunterricht im Freien bei 38grad'
Which translates as "pistol training in the open at 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit"

Too bad he moved the gun when this photo was taken, it's sharp enough to have revealed the toggle marking. Magazines are alu bottomed and at least one is loaded.
