1 Don't shoot it. One broken numbered part and the value goes to half, don't know about scarcity but yours is in great shape.
2 Don't store it in the holster, leather draws moisture and causes rust, and gun oil is hard on leather. But on the other hand don't store them in a way that they get separated either.
3 Keep it lightly oiled and away from moisture.
4 Keep your eyes open for a shooter so you won't be tempted to shoot this one.

That's a sweet one. Please buy another one to shoot. Damaging your 1940 would be a terrible loss of an excellent Luger.
