It is not at all uncommon to have a 1920 Commercial Luger without a matching sideplate or one that is not numbered. To see if this sideplate works without the gun firing, HOLD the trigger back, Pull back the action, and release the action DOWN with the trigger still depressed. And pull the trigger (To see if the sear resets) after you let it up the trigger after the action comes down,the trigger should trip the striker, if the gun does not recock itsellf and trigger does not trip the striker the sideplate is mismatched and does not work. If the gun fires, it is a proper sideplate and or one that is not matched but fitted correctly.
