Thanks for the insight... so I guess I won't be going that route.

I've been looking around, and I can get the Colt model I want in stainless... no rail for $780ish. If I want the rail, it goes up to $1,025ish.

No refinishing, just picking up magazines, new sights (preferably night sights), and possibly new grips. That all should put me under what it would cost for a M1911A1, and then going through the refinishing process.
