Why do some Lugers have white print and some do not?

What do you mean by white print? The lettering is in white on some guns and not others because the owners have used a "laquer stick" on them to highlight the date, etc. Some like to see it all in white, others do not. I'm told that you can buy them thru Brownell's. They are much like a white crayon: just smear it on and wipe of off.
Now the safety is lettered in white paint from the factory. A whole nuther deal there.
Hope this is what you were asking about. I just came in from a long Norton ride and may have misunderstood your question.

Same here. I had an Atlas in the late 60's; and an N15 Scrambler and later a P11 in the 70's. Wish I had any of them again.

I've had several N15 CS, an Atlas or 3 and a lot of Commandos. (Not to mention a bunch of the Matchless G80CS cousins, but no Manx...) A black Roadster is hard to beat. Actually it was #1 on a "dream stable" survey by one of the magazines a few years ago. Certainly a magical machine and surprisingly not too bad in reality.

You can buy a white laquer stick at any large stationery supply store.

So none of them came from the factory that way. Does this diminish value?

Laquer Stick is a very temporary thing. Wipes right off, so no effect on long term value, just might, or might not, get the attention of a potential buyer.
Now the hard-cores might ding you if all the lettering paint is off the safety mark, but some models rarely still show traces of that paint anyway.

Hi Jim, The white high-light does not affect the value. It is not permanent and can be removed with a toothbrush and solvent, like Breakfree or Hoppe's #9. Some collectors high-light the markings so that they will show up more clearly in photos, others just like the way it looks. Regards, Norm

And it seems to me like a well oiled gun with white lettering just looks better (darker) in the bluing dept. But it is all relative to personal preference.
